POVERTY ALLEVIATION DEPARTMENT

The Ministry has been consistent in the area of poverty reduction and alleviation. As part of its efforts to reduce poverty to Zero level in the state through the department and Lagos State Micro-Finance Institution partnered with eight approved micro finance banks to disburse micro credit loans to active poor in the state.

In order to reduce poverty in the state, the Ministry has signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with coca cola company plc to roll out 2000 Iconic Kiosks that will be distributed to Women, Men and Youths in the state. This is a special branded multi-purpose Kiosks that will solve the problem of paucity of conventional shops in the state.

One of the land marks of our poverty reduction programme is the purchase of 250 new yellow cabs first phase and another 250 for the second phase for the Association of Lagos State Taxi Driver and Cab Operators. The project was initiated and executed by the Ministry through Lagos State Micro Finance Institution and this has created employment for over 4,000 men in the state In addition to existing five partnering Microfinance Banks, His Excellency had approved the inclusion of three additional Microfinance Banks for wider coverage and service delivery to the good people of Lagos State.
